How BandUp Works
BandUp turns each practice essay into a clear learning loop: rubric score, plain-English correction, focused next step.
The Loop
The app keeps exam integrity intact by coaching after submission, then routing the next attempt toward the weakest skill.
Choose narrative or persuasive, type the essay, or use the beta camera flow to extract handwritten text for review.
BandUp checks the essay against the 10 NAPLAN criteria or the 5 scholarship criteria after submission.
Inline corrections explain what changed, why it matters, and which rubric criterion is affected.
The next quest, writing coach, and dashboard all point to the highest-value skill to work on next.
Scoring
BandUp scores against explicit criteria, then shows the student what to change in their actual writing.
10 criteria, 48 marks, narrative and persuasive modes, year-level band calibration.
5 criteria, 25 marks, with exam-board context for ACER, Edutest, Selective, and AAS.
Post-submission readability, vocabulary, and word-upgrade guidance that does not affect the score.
Questions
No. It is a practice estimate and learning guide, not an official result. Official NAPLAN assessments are conducted through schools.
Typed essays are still the cleanest path, but the beta camera and upload flow can extract handwritten text. Families should review the extracted text before submitting.
Frequency. Students improve faster when they can write, receive structured feedback, revise, and try again without waiting days for a marker.
Parent-owned accounts, child profiles, Australian-hosted Supabase data, and monitoring that avoids essay text. The trust page explains the operating model.
